About the Calves

The fate of our calves depends on many factors -- but the utmost trait that we select for is temperament!  For heifers, if their conformation is good, they get about 18 months to show that they aren't flaky.  Flaky heifers go to the auction or to the freezer:  We need to be able to walk up to our cows and work them right in the field.  Bull calves are evaluated on temperament, then genetics (would they work for future herd sires?).  If they won't work for us as herd sires, they are castrated and raised for freezer beef, either here or elsewhere.
